Everton are stepping up contract talks with James Garner as Aston Villa keep tabs on the current situation.

The Toffees have multiple players with deals expiring over the next season and a half, which has alerted plenty of clubs about their potential availability.

Garner is one such player whose contract is soon up at Everton, with the versatile midfielder’s deal set to expire in 2027.

While Everton reportedly have an option to extend Garner’s contract by a year, this has not stopped his future being highly speculated on in recent weeks.

Aston Villa monitoring James Garner situation

Teams such as Newcastle United and Manchester United have been regularly linked with the upcoming midfielder.

Now, the Toffees are seeking to put an end to this speculation, with talkSPORT on 25 November confirming that Everton are stepping up contract talks with Garner.

  • Garner joined Everton in 2022
  • The midfielder has since become a regular at the Toffees
  • On top of playing in the centre of the field, Garner can also be used as a right-back

The report mentions how the 24-year-old played a “starring role” in the Toffees’ recent 1-0 victory over Man United at Old Trafford

However, multiple clubs are still keeping tabs on the situation, such as Nottingham Forest, Man United and Aston Villa.

Is Garner capable of becoming Everton’s next star midfielder?

For David Moyes, questions will be asked about who Everton’s next star midfielder will be.

Idrissa Gueye is nearing the end of his career, and is out of contract in the summer.

As a result, the Scotsman will need someone to step up eventually, with Garner showing plenty of signs that he is capable of doing this.

According to Sofascore on 25 November, the midfielder has been excellent, with his 4.17 duels won per game a particular highlight.

Therefore, Everton should do everything in their power to ensure that Garner remains a Toffee, as he is someone they could easily build a team around.
