Conor Gallagher pointed in Everton’s direction as £35m January transfer news emerges
Conor Gallagher has been backed for a move to Everton in order to boost his chances of getting back into the England set up.
Everton are interested in Gallagher again this season but the midfielder is believed to only be interested in leaving Atletico Madrid for a Premier League club in Europe at present.
The Toffees have pursued Gallagher for years since his time at Chelsea and Frank Lampard was in charge on Merseyside, but have never been able to get a deal done.
The 23-year-old is not a regular starter in Madrid and frequently has to come off the bench this term, making a possible January departure an option, but only a permanent deal is thought to be on the table.

Bryan King backs Conor Gallagher to Everton move
Gallagher has only played once under Thomas Tuchel, in the 3-1 defeat to Senegal in the summer, and has been overtaken by other options playing regularly in the Premier League, making a return to England potentially his best bet to make a late push for the World Cup.
With the club now in a much more secure long-term financial setting thanks to The Friedkin Group‘s takeover from Farhad Moshiri the outlook is more positive.
And former Everton scout Bryan King believes the Toffees need to be considered a big-club option again for players such as Gallagher.
Asked about a potential January move he exclusively told Goodison News: “Of course. He’s a quality player, and he needs games. They’re all talking about [Elliot] Anderson and [Adam] Wharton for England, where’s Gallagher gone?
“He should be in that conversation as well. He’s a player who needs the Premier League and the Premier League needs him.

“I think Gallagher still has a lot to give, and certainly to an English club. Players have got to start thinking that Everton are a big club.”
Gallagher to Everton closer than ever
Jarrad Branthwaite, and more recently Jack Grealish, might have a few thoughts on getting picked for England while playing for Everton as both can count themselves unlucky to miss out on call ups.
Jordan Pickford has long been cemented as the Three Lions’ number one but outside of the keeper it often seems like an uphill struggle to get noticed by the national set up.
Wharton’s Crystal Palace and Anderson’s Nottingham Forest are both at least playing in Europe now, but the former was getting a look in prior to this term.
| Games | Starts | Goals | |
| La Liga | 11 | 2 | 1 |
| Champions League | 4 | 2 | 1 |
However, after Everton’s 1-0 win at Man United on Monday night got things back on track it demonstrates what sort of opportunity David Moyes and his side have this term.
They are currently 11th but just three points off the top four, and with the top flight so congested this term it should be more achievable than ever to secure European football.
If Moyes can sell Gallagher on the upward trajectory at the Hill Dickinson then success in the long-term pursuit might finally be achievable.
