Cole Palmer injury update for Chelsea vs Everton as training absence now explained

Everton face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, but there is still some doubt around whether Cole Palmer will be involved in the contest.

David Moyes’ side will go into the game full of confidence, off the back of four Premier League wins in their last five games.

Last Saturday, Everton beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, a result which leaves them seventh in the table.

The Toffees are now just one point adrift of fifth-placed Chelsea, and will go above Enzo Maresca’s side if they can secure the victory in West London on 13 December.

Cole Palmer misses Chelsea training ahead of Everton game

Palmer went off injured in Chelsea’s defeat to Manchester United back in September, and didn’t return until the beginning of this month.

The 23-year-old managed 30 minutes off the bench against Leeds United before starting away at Bournemouth.

However, according to Matt Law, Palmer was absent from Chelsea training on 8 December, as the Blues prepare for the Champions League and then the visit of Everton.

There is no suggestion that the 23-year-old has picked up another injury, though, with the West London club simply structuring his return to fitness.

Palmer is expected to miss Chelsea’s Champions League game against Atalanta on Tuesday evening but will be back for the Everton match.

Everton have tools to hurt Chelsea

With the likes of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in brilliant form, Everton have a definite chance of getting a result away at Stamford Bridge.

Even with the return of Palmer, Chelsea have picked up just one point from their last two Premier League games, and their inconsistency is clear for all to see.

The Toffees can take advantage of the West London side’s poor form and will look to put the hosts under early pressure on Saturday.

Thierno Barry finally broke his goalscoring duck against Nottingham Forest, and with Dewsbury-Hall, Iliman Ndiaye and Jack Grealish behind the Frenchman, Moyes’s side have the attacking tools to breach a shaky Chelsea defence.
