Merlin Rohl destined for early Everton exit after latest transfer update
Merlin Rohl is surely destined for an early Everton exit given the Toffees’ recent interest in Conor Gallagher.
The German attacking midfielder has struggled since his deadline-day move to the Merseyside club.
Injuries have prevented Rohl from receiving regular game time at Everton, with the 23-year-old making just four appearances for the Toffees to date.
While Everton are obligated to buy Rohl come the end of the season, David Moyes’ recent targets suggest that his stay will be a short one.

Merlin Rohl destined for early Everton exit
In the build-up to the summer transfer window, the Toffees have been continuously linked with midfielders.
Napoli’s Scott McTominay was loosely linked to the Hill Dickinson Stadium earlier this season before these rumours died.
More recently, Conor Gallagher has been rumoured to be an Everton target, with the Atletico Madrid star potentially on the move.
- Gallagher moved to Aletico Madrid in 2024
- The England international has since become a regular at the Spanish giants
- However, he could now be set for a quick return to England
A recent report has suggested that Gallagher could move on loan to Everton, with Manchester United and West Ham also in the race.
If he is brought in, it would make the Toffees particularly crowded in the midfield area, making a departure likely.
Therefore, surely Rohl would be first on the chopping block, with everything indicating that the transfer is an awful blunder from Moyes.

A quick exit could also help the Toffees earn some of their money back, which could be reinvested into other areas next summer.

Does Rohl have the potential to become a solid player at Everton?
While fans will have few appearances to go off, when Rohl has played, he hasn’t been great.
According to Sofascore on 12 December, the attacking midfielder has few impressive stats this season.
Per 90 minutes, he is only averaging a 0.01 xA, 0.3 key passes and 0.8 shots.
| Merlin Rohl’s Everton stats | Per 90 minutes |
| xG | 0.42 |
| xA | 0.01 |
| Key passes | 0.3 |
| Big chances created | 0 |
| Passing accuracy | 80% |
| Shots | 0.8 |
This is pretty bleak for an attacking midfielder despite him only playing 91 minutes of action this season.
While he does have a chance to prove many people wrong when he comes back from injury, for now, expectations are low.
