Everton January transfer window guide: Who David Moyes could sign, who could be sold and deadline day explained
Everton are heading into a vital January transfer window.
The trajectory of Everton’s 2025-26 season is still firmly in the balance.
Everton have been enjoying an improved debut season at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, but whether or not they’ll be looking ahead or over their shoulders during the second half of the season may largely depend on the work they do/don’t do in January.
David Moyes appears to have the nucleus of a team that can get the club competing back towards the top end of the Premier League, but there are also some blatant holes that need filling too.
Ahead of the winter sales, Goodison News provides supporters with everything they need to know about Everton’s January transfer window.

When the January transfer window opens and closes
The January transfer window opens for Premier League clubs on Thursday, 1 January.
Deadline day will be Monday, 2 February, with the window for English clubs officially slamming shut at 19:00 GMT.
Everton’s January transfer targets
Naturally, transfer speculation is rife at this time of year, with players being linked to Everton with each passing day.
One of the standout names to be touted with a move to Everton is Ivan Toney, with the Al Ahli striker understood to be open about a Premier League return, potentially to give himself the best chance of going to the 2026 World Cup with England.
Any deal for the 29-year-old would be expensive though, and it remains to be seen whether Everton would be willing to pay a premium price for the centre-forward – which is a position the Toffees are said to be prioritising.
Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee has also been linked with Everton, but he looks likely to have numerous options aside from a switch to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Chelsea youngster Tyrique George has cropped up in Everton transfer discussions too.
The club are also known to be looking for midfield reinforcements, with Kobbie Mainoo and Kalvin Phillips being touted to Everton.
Free agent Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is also reportedly of interest to Everton, as the 32-year-old awaits his next opportunity after leaving Besiktas this summer.
Atletico Madrid man Conor Gallagher is another to have cropped up in Everton transfer circles, whilst Croatian attacking midfielder Toni Fruk is a name to watch for Everton.
Meanwhile, in defence, Everton have been credited with an interest in Botafogo right-back Vitinho, with full-back being another key area of need.
Real Betis centre-back Nobel Mendy has also been linked with Everton, as has Barcelona’s Andreas Christensen.
An ambitious Everton move for Porto star Samu Aghehowa has been mentioned, whilst Fulham’s Antonee Robinson has been touted with a £25million switch to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Who David Moyes could sell before deadline day
Everton will reportedly sanction Dwight McNeil’s move to Nottingham Forest, but this deal could be delayed due to Iliman Ndiaye’s involvement at AFCON.
Speaking of which, Ndiaye and Jarrad Branthwaite have both been tipped to leave Everton if Champions League clubs come calling in January.
It’s fair to say that given how important both players are to the team, both in the present and for the future, Everton surely won’t be keen to let them go, and it may require some pushing from the players’ camps if a deal is to be struck.
- Everton were able to sign Carlos Alcaraz on an initial loan deal on deadline day last winter
- David Moyes’ team looks light at full-back, and addressing that along with a striker look like being the main priorities
- Everton will take on Brentford, Wolves, Aston Villa, Leeds United and Brighton in January
Beto could also be heading out the Everton door in the New Year, with Roma striker Artem Dovbyk even mentioned in a possible swap deal.
Meanwhile, as per the Liverpool Echo, the Toffees could let a handful of youngsters leave on loan, with Reece Welch, Elijah Campbell, Will Tamen, George Finney and Roman Dixon all candidates for temporary exits.
Teenage left-back Adam Aznou looks some way off being Premier League ready too, and could be another afforded the opportunity to seek a loan move.
