Everything Everton fans need to know about Jack Grealish’s situation – Injury, finances and reaction

Jack Grealish proved an excellent signing for Everton prior to being struck down by injury last month.

Grealish broke a 12-year-long Everton record by registering four assists across his first two Premier League games.

He formed a brilliant partnership with Iliman Ndiaye on the opposite flank and has been a driving force for everything positive that the Toffees have done in the final third of the pitch.

Everton have shown interest in signing Grealish permanently, but with no agreement currently in place, he will return to Manchester City at the end of the campaign.

And his season-ending injury certainly hasn’t helped matters at all.

How much are Everton paying towards Jack Grealish’s wages?

Grealish suffered a foot stress fracture in Everton’s 1-0 win over Aston Villa on 18 January, and David Moyes confirmed that he would likely miss the rest of the season.

Everton are picking up three-quarters of Grealish’s wages of around £300,000 a week, which is roughly £3m between his injury happening and the end of the season.

The 30-year-old was a star for his boyhood club, Aston Villa, but he was never the same following his £100million move to Man City in 2021 – even if he did rack up the honours.

Grealish won nine trophies under Pep Guardiola, but the 30-year-old winger found himself at the bottom of the pecking order for most of that time.

Since moving to Merseyside, he has been a man reborn and quickly became a fan favourite with the Everton crowd.

He has understood what it means to play at Hill Dickinson Stadium, and it’s such a shame that he may never feature in a blue shirt again.

As per the agreement when joining the Toffees last summer, Everton has the option to buy Grealish for £50m at the end of the season.

While the Citizens may knock the price tag down due to his age and fitness concerns, it would still be an incredibly good deal if Moyes’ side were able to sign him for less than £40m.

As seen in the Sofascore graphic above, Grealish has certainly been impressive, and it’s disappointing that the Toffees only managed to get half a season out of him.

How will Everton react to Grealish’s absence?

Everton fans are gutted that their talisman is stuck on the sidelines, and The Friedkin Group left it late in the winter transfer window to to replace him.

The Toffees signed Chelsea’s Tyrique George on loan, and there is an option to make the move permanent in the summer.

Joining Everton will allow the 19-year-old winger to have a consistent run of games in the Premier League due to Grealish’s absence on the left wing.

Dwight McNeil’s last-minute move to Crystal Palace fell through, and although he isn’t Moyes’ first-choice pick, he can certainly provide depth behind George.

The Toffees currently sit 10th in the Premier League table, and they have real ambitions of securing Europe football, which is, in large part, thanks to Grealish.

The winger was instrumental in their first game at Hill Dickinson Stadium, a 2-0 win over Brighton, by assisting both goals, and the season has gone from strength to strength ever since.

Grealish also had hopes of getting into the England squad for the 2026 World Cup, although those dreams have now been cruelly taken away from him.

The Toffees will have to cope without him, and the likes of George and McNeil will have to replace his attacking output with immediate effect.
