Charly Alcaraz must redefine Everton role to keep Hill Dickinson Stadium future alive
Charly Alcaraz has been a bit-part player for David Moyes at Everton this season.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s heroics since his move from Chelsea have seen the midfielder cement his place in the number 10 position.
The former Leicester City star is one of the first-choice midfielders under the Scottish manager and it will be challenging for any player to displace him.
Merlin Rohl’s future at Hill Dickinson Stadium also seems set, with the Toffees obligated to sign him, leaving the ex-Flamengo star to potentially redefine his role in L4 and possibly play deeper in the engine room.
Alcaraz must show Moyes that he can potentially replace Idrissa Gueye and form a partnership with James Garner, which may keep the Argentine national’s future in Merseyside alive.

Can Charly Alcaraz stats translate to a deeper Everton role?
Alcaraz’s heatmap from last season will clearly show him primarily featuring in the opposition’s half, with a more creative role at the Toffees.
The midfielder has played multiple roles in the current campaign, partly due to mostly coming on as a substitute for the Blues.
| Statistics | Carlos Alcaraz |
| Appearances | 16 |
| Starts | 6 |
| Goals | 0 |
| Assists | 1 |
| Possession won in final third per game | 0.1 |
| Ground duels won per game | 1.8 (45%) |
| Aerial duels won per game | 0.8 (45%) |
In the current campaign, the Argentine ace has recorded a passing accuracy of 81 per cent and created two big chances in 16 Premier League appearances, as per Sofascore.
Alcaraz hasn’t had to put in too much defensive work, with 0.8 tackles, 0.3 clearances, 0.2 interceptions and winning 2.6 duels per game.
Compare that to someone like Gueye, who has averaged 1.9 tackles, 0.8 clearances, 1.2 interceptions and winning four duels per game, and it’s tough to see the ex-Flamengo ace replicating the Senegal international’s impact.
Charly Alcaraz has mitigating circumstance to excuse Hill Dickinson struggles
Alcaraz has been injured for large parts of the season since the turn of the year, but his Everton future doesn’t seem guaranteed now.

The Argentine national will surely have to put in a real shift whenever he’s called upon in the last seven Premier League matches to show Moyes he’s worth having a role in the upcoming campaign.
What could potentially go in the midfielder’s favour is that the Toffees will arguably need immense squad depth if they qualify for a European competition.
Whether Alcaraz has the wherewithal to fight for a place at the Merseyside outfit remains to be seen.
