Everton vs Liverpool: Things you may have missed from Hill Dickinson Stadium loss

Everton missed the chance to go within two points of Liverpool as they lost 2-1 on Sunday.

It was a huge opportunity to bolster their European qualification hopes, but David Moyes‘ side left with nothing.

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring, and Beto put the Blues back in the contest before a heartbreak goal from Virgil van Dijk in the 100th minute.

Moyes and Co will be disappointed with the result, but the performance was admirable, and they deserved more.

Here, Goodison News reveals three things supporters may have missed from Everton’s defeat to Liverpool.

Moyes remonstrating with the referee after Everton vs Liverpool controversy

Everton were subject to several controversial incidents in the narrow loss.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall wanted a penalty that was not given, Iliman Ndiaye’s opener was ruled out for offside too.

However, Moyes was spotted remonstrating with the fourth official after Jordan Pickford was booked in the 23rd minute of the game.

The goalkeeper was cautioned for dissent after Van Dijk had fouled Idrissa Gueye, and it seemed quite harsh, considering some of the things that the visitors got away with.

Everton fans boo Liverpool anthem

There is no love lost between the sides, and Evertonians made it known when the Reds supporters were singing their famous anthem at the end of the clash.

The away fans were singing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ after the final whistle, and the home crowd could be heard booing and jeering the song.

It was captured by ESPN journalist Beth Lindop, who was at the stadium.

Extent of Beto injury potentially emerges

Beto was forced off in the second half as a result of a head clash with Ibrahima Konate, with Thierno Barry replacing him.

The Athletic’s Patrick Boyland revealed that it looked like a concussion, and that he spotted the Guinea-Bissau forward gesturing to the bench.

He seemed to be saying to the coaches that his vision was blurred, according to the reporter.

If it were a concussion, then he will be required to rest for 48 hours and complete the six-step process to return to action.

It is another cruel twist after the late goal stopped the Toffees from walking away with a well-deserved point, and after a brilliant performance from the forward.
