Everton player ratings vs West Ham: Iliman Ndiaye isolated, Idrissa Gueye anonymous

Everton fell to a 2-1 defeat away to West Ham.

With West Ham in need of a win to steer clear of relegation, and Everton in need of a win to maintain serious ambitions of Europe, many expected the game to be full of intensity, though that was not the case for the most part.

West Ham had only the second shot on target after 51 minutes and found the back of the net with it, with Tomas Soucek firing a header beyond Jordan Pickford.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall struck late in the second half to draw the game level, but even that wouldn’t be the end of it, with Callum Wilson punishing the Toffees again to win the game for the hosts in the 92nd-minute.

Everton are still in with a chance of Europe, but the latest defeat will do them no favours.

Iliman Ndiaye had no help for Everton

Iliman Ndiaye is always the player capable of changing a game for Everton, and despite his best efforts against West Ham, he couldn’t do it on the day.

He was always positive with the ball, but was never given any options to play off, leaving him with two men to beat every time he had the ball.

Ndiaye has certainly played better this season than he did against West Ham, but it’s fair to say that he was Everton’s brightest player, not that there was much competition.

Idrissa Gueye offered nothing vs West Ham

Idrissa Gueye’s experience and defensive know-how are so often key to Everton’s success, but he was lacking in the latter at the London Stadium.

His passing was neat throughout, but he offered very little defensive stability when the Hammers were in transition.

Gueye committed two fouls in the game and was dribbled past on two occasions.

On top of that, West Ham’s midfield had the better of him more often than not, with the Senegal international having lost five of his six duels, including all of them in the first half.
