Charly Alcaraz called out after late Everton scenes vs Manchester City – ‘Just kill the game’

Charly Alcaraz has caught the flak for Everton‘s late collapse against Manchester City on Monday.

The Argentine came off as a late substitute to try and help David Moyes‘ side to keep their lead at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Unfortunately, goals from Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku’s last-gasp strike denied the Blues all three points on 4 May.

Alcaraz had the chance to keep the ball but headed it right back to the City players in the closing stages, which allowed Pep Guardiola’s side to have another chance.

Everton deserved the victory, and the one point will not help their European chase at all.

What was said about Alcaraz after Everton vs Manchester City?

Alcaraz has struggled at Everton this season, not playing anywhere near as much as he would have liked, and perhaps that showed.

Ally McCoist called out the Toffees ace live on air after what happened against the Citizens, he can’t fathom why he did not find a teammate or hit it out of play.

Speaking on talkSPORT on 5 May (6:14 am), he said: “The final goal, is it Alcaraz, he heads it back in, just head it to the right or out the pitch, just kill the game.

“There is two guys further up, it’s an awkward header, I am nitpicking a wee bit, I’m looking at it from big Moyesy’s shoes, just get it out the pitch and get your shape back in.

“Let the two boys ahead of you get back in, you’re not going to score, but anyway, what a game of football.”

Why Moyes may be at the end of his tether with Alcaraz

Alcaraz was at fault for the last goal in an ever more blatant way than McCoist has highlighted, he was the closest player to Doku and failed to close him down.

He stood there with his arms at his side, trying to block it by being clever, rather than just charging at the ball.

Perhaps if he had done that, he may have had a better chance of blocking it and giving Moyes’ side all three points after a hard-fought performance.

Alcaraz’s league stats this season

The former Southampton man’s future will likely come into question in the summer, as he has featured 18 times in the Premier League, with just six starts.

He is below Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and others in the pecking order, and after his cameo against City, there is surely little chance that changes anytime soon, as he showed a lack of decision-making, fight and effort.

He could seek greener pastures after a dismal personal campaign on Merseyside, and the Blues may well consider an exit if a decent offer is presented to them, it may be the best outcome for all parties involved.

Moyes may well be at the end of his tether with the midfielder.
