Everton star Jack Grealish applauds James Maddison after emotional return message

Everton star Jack Grealish has sent his support to Tottenham Hotspur man James Maddison following his return from injury.

Grealish has endured a difficult period out on the sidelines himself in recent months, being ruled out for the remainder of the season back in January.

Before that, the Manchester City loanee had become a crucial cog under David Moyes.

Beginning to reignite his form after a rough time at the Etihad, Grealish stood alongside Iliman Ndiaye as the attacking star for the Toffees, before his untimely injury confirmed his absence.

Since then, the Englishman has remained nothing but supportive of his teammates, and it now extends to compatriot and fellow Midlander Maddison.

Jack Grealish celebrates James Maddison return

At the start of the current decade, Grealish and Maddison found themselves at the centre of many debates.

Playing for Aston Villa and Leicester City respectively, the pair worked their way into the England setup, while fans constantly compared the pair.

After a rough year with Manchester City, Grealish was in need of a reset, and he most certainly got that in the early days of his Everton career.

As Tottenham faced Leeds on Monday, Maddison would make his return to the side after missing the entirety of the campaign, prompting an emotional Instagram message.

“After the longest, toughest 12 months of my life, the reception you Spurs fans gave me made all the sacrifice and dark days absolutely worth it,” said the midfielder.

“Thank you so much. Back where I belong.”

Reacting in the comments, Blues man Grealish rushed to congratulate his former England teammate, with a selection of applause, prayers and blue hearts in emoji format.

As players looking to get on the ball and make things happen, Maddison and Grealish carry stylistic similarities.

And heading into next season, the wish is that Grealish’s time at Everton is not quite done yet, and that he is able to get the return that everyone associated with the Toffees craves.

Grealish looking ahead to his own injury return

As mentioned, Grealish has continued to remain supportive throughout his time out on the sidelines.

Whether it be showing his support when watching matches or bigging up his teammates on social media, he has well and truly embedded himself at Everton.

As the Blues look to continue building in the coming years, he is the exact type of player Moyes should look to build around, with Grealish’s impact in the dressing room adding a whole new dimension to his supreme attacking qualities.

Always looking to get on the ball and make things happen, the versatile attacker/midfielder could prove talismanic for what could be a new-look Everton moving forward.

Even when things do not come off, he constantly wants to drive at defenders and cause havoc – something that he was beginning to add back to his game after losing himself slightly at Manchester City.

After the rapturous applause for his friend Maddison on Monday, the hope will be that this can happen for Grealish at Hill Dickinson Stadium in August.
