Everton fans could be set for ideal away day as Newcastle summer friendly being discussed

Everton are reportedly in talks with fellow Premier League side Newcastle United over a pre-season friendly fixture this summer.

The Toffees have two more fixtures to play this season, with Sunday’s visit of Sunderland followed by a trip to Tottenham Hotspur a week later.

David Moyes‘ men could yet be in Europe next season, which would alter their plans for this summer in terms of friendlies played.

However, it is looking increasingly likely that Everton will just miss out on a place in any of the three UEFA competitions.

Plans are already being knocked into shape for the summer, though, with an update now emerging on a possible friendly against Newcastle.

Everton could face Newcastle in Edinburgh

Everton chiefs know the importance of getting the summer friendlies spot on for more than one reason.

Firstly, Moyes will want to ease his side in before gradually facing more challenging sides, including Premier League opposition.

But also, these fixtures are a way of bringing in some additional funds and potentially expanding the fanbase if fixtures are staged elsewhere.

That perhaps explains why, as per Lee Ryder of Chronicle Live, Everton and Newcastle are in early talks over staging a friendly in Edinburgh.

Should the sides come to an agreement, the match will be hosted at the 67,000-plus capacity Murrayfield Stadium.

The report adds this is just one option being considered by Newcastle, however, and nothing is close to being officially announced.

Should the game go ahead, Everton fans will no doubt travel in their thousands for what should be a great day – or more – in the Scottish capital.

Everton pre-season plans still unclear

As previously mentioned, Everton are still unsure exactly how their summer will shape up. That depends on whether they finish in a European spot or not.

As of now, there are no concrete plans in place. That will likely change over the next couple of weeks, though – including any potential update on this Newcastle friendly.

Premier League teams will, as ever, travel across the globe this summer. Aston Villa are in Asia, Chelsea in Australia, Leeds United in the USA and Manchester United over Scandinavia.

Moyes will no doubt have his say in plans, preferring to stay closer to home.

But that can all wait for now as Everton have two important competitive games to cross off first.
