James Garner left ‘gutted’ after England squad snub as Everton star shares emotional World Cup message

James Garner has been left out of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the World Cup, and the Everton star has been left heartbroken.

The Three Lions announced their official squad who will be on the plane to North America this summer, and Jordan Pickford was named as one of three goalkeepers.

There was an expectation that both he and Garner were both going to make the final cut, but a surprising move has seen the latter miss out.

The midfielder has been one of David Moyes‘ best players this season, and is in the running for a clean sweep of the Toffees’ individual awards.

Garner has missed out on the World Cup, despite Tuchel praising him in the past after a call-up in March.

James Garner shares ‘gutted’ message

Garner looked to be nailed on to make the squad, but the likes of Jordan Henderson and Elliot Anderson have got in ahead of him.

The Toffees shared their sympathy for their midfield superstar, encouraging him to keep his head up after what has been a tremendous effort from him on a personal level.

As seen in the above, the 25-year-old has taken his game up a notch this term, especially in the final third, creating chances galore for his teammates.

Taking to Instagram this Friday, the Everton star shared an emotional message.

Garner said: “Gutted is an understatement. Good luck to the boys.”

It comes as a real blow to everyone, as Everton fans would have loved to see him represent England this summer.

What has Thomas Tuchel said about Garner?

Tuchel admitted following his squad announcement, that he had to make some calls to players, with some being more difficult conversations than others.

It would be no surprise to hear that the England boss was deflated to have left Garner out, but the Everton star himself may reveal that conversation in due time.

It’s mostly a shock because it seemed like Tuchel was a genuine fan of Garner’s, especially after his performances in the March international break.

Everton fans may be a little stressed, as it may feel like the Englishman would have had a better chance of making the squad, had he been playing for the likes of Manchester United or another top side.

It could influence him to make a big decision this summer, or to knuckle down and improve at Hill Dickinson.
