Wayne Rooney claims ‘brilliant’ Everton actually had the Premier League game of the season
Wayne Rooney has been reviewing the Premier League season just gone, with the former Everton striker believing the Toffees were part of the best fixture this campaign.
It was the first season for Everton in their new stadium, but the campaign’s outcome did not provide them with any added rewards.
European football looked to be within their grasp, but form after the March international break had dropped dramatically.
The Toffees failed to win any of their games following that break, securing three draws and four losses in that period.
However, according to Rooney, Everton’s last win this season was the best Premier League match on offer over the campaign.

What game does Wayne Rooney believe was the Premier League game of the season?
Everton have had quite a few pieces of drama this season and also have racked up some excellent results this campaign.
However, it was not enough to secure the prize that every Evertonian wanted – European football. Moyes may now be under pressure at Everton due to failing at that goal.
| Everton’s season in numbers | Total |
| Position | 13th |
| Points | 49 |
| Wins | 13 |
| Goals scored | 47 |
| Goals conceded | 50 |
The Toffees, though, have now earned a prize from former player Rooney, who has issued his verdict on the best game of the Premier League season.
After podcast host Kelly Somers shared she felt Everton’s 3-3 draw against Man City was the best this season had to offer, Rooney opted to go for a different Toffees’ fixture.
Speaking on the Wayne Rooney Show, he stated: “I’m going Everton as well, Everton against Chelsea. I thought Everton were brilliant, and that was an Everton team, aggressive, winning second balls, tackling, and getting in the opposition’s faces, so I go with that game.”
The 40-year-old may ultimately be accused of bias for selecting a game involving his former employers, but for Evertonians, there will be few that disagree.
Victory against Chelsea at Hill Dickinson came against the odds, with the Blues showcasing poor home form throughout the campaign.
Additionally, it was a crucial fixture in the race for European football, with Everton just six points behind Liverpool in fifth and five behind Chelsea in sixth at the time.

What was Everton’s biggest win in the 2025-2026 season?
It will come as no surprise that the 3-0 home win against Chelsea comes out on top as Everton’s biggest victory of the season.
However, it was not the only match that has reached the top of that honour.
The Toffees also won 3-0 at home against Nottingham Forest back in December 2025. A Nikola Milenkovic own goal, a Thierno Barry strike and a Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall finish are what separated the two sides in the end.
So, Hill Dickinson has certainly seen some good days so far, and hopefully, next season, the home form improves much more.
