Shea Charles: Everton should move for Southampton star alongside transfer for Hayden Hackney
Shea Charles’ season for Southampton has put him on the radar of many clubs in England, and that includes Everton.
The midfield department appears to be a priority for the Toffees amid news that the Blues are the favourites and leading contenders to sign Hayden Hackney.
Hackney, who won the Championship’s player of the season award, has had a breakout year in the second tier of English football.
It remains to be seen if the Englishman is the only midfield arrival for Everton, but the L3 outfit would be wise to not stop there.
Everton’s interest in Charles has also been rife, and David Moyes should look to sign him alongside Hackney and not as a potential alternative.

Why Shea Charles should also be signed by Everton
After Southampton were kicked out of the Championship play-off final, ultimately ending their hopes of a Premier League return, it opened the door for many of their players to leave.
Everton have been mentioned as destinations for quite a few, including winger Leo Scienza and now Charles.
| Shea Charles | Championship 2025-2026 |
| Pass accuracy | 85% |
| Duel success | 57% |
| Balls recovered per game | 4.3 |
According to The Athletic, Charles is a player that Everton have followed. However, that was all that was said, and it remains to be seen if interest will result in an approach.
Now, with Everton moving forward to sign Hackney, the chances of a move to Hill Dickinson could be slimmer. But perhaps Charles should still be on their radar ahead of next season.
With Idrissa Gueye’s contract still up in the air, and Tim Iroegbunam’s future at Everton in doubt, signing two midfielders will be needed.
Having a trio of options in James Garner, Hackney and Charles would be a workhorse midfield that could cover plenty of ground for Moyes.
Charles, like Hackney, has impressed in the Championship in the 2025-2026 season.

How much could Shea Charles cost Everton?
If Everton want to land Shea Charles, they may have to fork out quite the fee for the midfielder.
The latest information emerging from the Daily Mail suggests the Saints will be looking for a minimum of £30million.
However, his contract is set to expire in the summer of 2027, so perhaps the Toffees could use that to their advantage to negotiate a deal.
Additionally, with the allure of Premier League football, the Northern Irishman could push for a move away too.
