Everton face fresh decision on Tim Iroegbunam’s future amid Hayden Hackney transfer latest

Everton have plenty of decisions to make over the future of their players in this summer window.

The Toffees are looking to build a squad capable of challenging for those much-coveted European spots, and after failing to get over the line this season, there is certainly room for improvements across the squad.

Midfield is an area that could use some added reinforcements, with the future of Idrissa Gueye up in the air due to his contract situation.

Everton are also in the market for a central-midfielder, with concrete links for Hayden Hackney emerging ahead of the summer.

However, 22-year-old Tim Iroegbunam will be wondering where Everton’s transfer business leaves him next season, as a quick decision may have to be made.

What has been said about Tim Iroegbunam’s Everton future?

According to The Athletic, Everton “are yet to make a definitive decision” on the future of Iroegbunam. The Toffees were open to a sale in the winter window if their £20million valuation was met.

However, with Hayden Hackney now edging towards Everton, and talks with Idrissa Gueye on a new contract underway, the Blues may have to make a decision quickly.

The Englishman is likely to be unhappy with a lack of minutes next season and could fall behind as a fourth-choice defensive midfielder.

The future of Gueye will likely play a crucial role in any decision made by the Friedkin Group or David Moyes for this summer.

What does David Moyes think of Tim Iroegbunam?

Moyes has praised Iroegbunam in the past, stating back at the end of December: “He’s still got a bit to do, and I’ve mentioned that I want him to keep playing forward and be a bit more positive in his overall play.

“There are parts of his game that are very good, like his recovery and getting back to win things back have been excellent.”

However, those comments have not been backed up by his team selections throughout the season. The 22-year-old was selected to start in just 17 matches throughout the season, and per appearance he has averaged just 52 minutes played.

If Gueye’s contract is not agreed, Iroegbunam certainly has a place in this Everton squad as a third-choice midfielder, but as talks drag on, it is not ideal for any party involved.

With time running out until Gueye’s contract expires, the Toffees must be quick to make their final decision – do they push to keep the Senegalese veteran, or place trust in Iroegbunam to go up another level?
