Everton want to sign Southampton striker Che Adams, £15m gets deal done with exit mooted

Everton have joined the “tug of war” battle to sign Southampton striker Che Adams after his relegation to the Championship, according to Football Scotland.

Adams has long been linked with a move away from St Mary’s, but managed ten goals and three assists in the Premier League last season despite the Saints finishing rock bottom of the table.

Now an exit is expected with Everton and Burnley battling for his services, with a deal worth £15m expected to be enough to get a move done this summer.

“Scotland striker Che Adams is at the centre of a transfer tuf of war after Everton joined the race for his signature,” they wrote (13 July).

“The Tartan Army hero is out of contract next year and could be available for a cut-price fee worth around £15million.”

Option

Of all the strikers who have been linked with Everton this summer, Adams may actually be the most realistic and interesting option.

In the Championship he had a good goalscoring record before his move to Southampton, and in the Premier League that has continued with a decent rate considering the team he has been playing in.

He’s capable of playing up front on his own or in a duo, has good pace, good hold up abilities, is good with either feet and competitive in the air – everything Sean Dyche loves in a striker.

£15m seems like a more than fair price but it’s also likely to be able to be negotiated down a bit because his contract situation means he would be able to leave for nothing next year if he stayed put.

Everton could really put a move together for him and bolster the front line quite comfortably without really hurting the budget, and that would be a shrewd bit of business.
