Everton: Michael Owen stunned by Amadou Onana as footage emerges v Crystal Palace

Michael Owen was thrilled by what he saw as footage emerged of Amadou Onana in the Everton v Crystal Palace clash on 19 February.

The game at Goodison Park ended 1-1 with Onana scoring a towering header to secure a draw with the Toffees falling behind in the clash.

Jordan Ayew’s 66th minute goal looked to be enough to secure the three points but the Belgian had other ideas.

Speaking on the Premier League Productions’ post-match show (19 February, 10:09pm) Owen said: “The height he got there was incredible, wasn’t it? When you’ve got somebody who can jump that high, then why not? It was a dangerous ball in.”

Onana stands taller than Calvert-Lewin for Everton

These kinds of chances are bread and butter for Dominic Calvert-Lewin but he’s on a prolonged goal-scoring drought.

He has been criticised by his former teammate and Owen for it and he knows that this cannot continue.

Onana’s towering header showcased his aerial prowess and his overall performance highlighted why he’s attracting interest from clubs like Newcastle and Arsenal.

His ability to rise above defenders and convert set-piece opportunities into goals is a valuable asset for any team.

However, it’s important to note that Onana cannot be relied upon solely as a goal scorer.

While his contributions in attack are commendable, Everton’s attacking players, including Calvert-Lewin, need to step up and share the goal-scoring burden.

The Belgian’s goal against Palace emphasises his potential impact in both defensive and offensive phases of the game, but it also underscores the need for the entire attacking unit to contribute consistently to alleviate the pressure on their primary goal scorers.
