Arsenal and Newcastle express transfer interest in Everton midfielder Amadou Onana
Arsenal and Newcastle have reportedly expressed an interest to sign Everton midfielder Amadou Onana in the January transfer window.
According to former RMC Sport journalist Sacha Tavolieri, even Chelsea have made the Toffees aware of their keenness to bring in the Belgium international.
Given Frank Lampard’s departure and the cash crunch at Goodison Park, the 21-year-old could be shown the door in January.
Via Twitter, Tavolieri wrote, “Initially unthinkable, the departure of Frank #Lampard coupled with the urgent need for liquidity at #EvertonFC opens the door to the departure of Amadou #Onana this winter! #ChelseaFC & #ArsenalFC who are looking for a similar profile + Newcastle United have expressed their interest.”
Onana just moved to Everton in the summer and the club will surely not consider his sale within a few months of him joining.
The Belgian has fit in perfectly and it can be argued that he’s been one of the few players who’s performed consistently this season for the Toffees.
We do not think Lampard’s future has anything to do with him being at the club as he moved because he wanted to play for Everton and in the Premier League.
Still, if the aforementioned clubs want to sign him, then they will have to pay a premium and perhaps even double what the Toffees did to sign him in the first place.
Hopefully, they sort the managerial appointment sooner rather than later as there’s just a little over a week left before the window shuts.
The new manager would want his signings and will just have a few days to get those names over the line, which is going to be a challenge.
