An Amanda Staveley-led takeover of Everton is still potentially in the pipeline as the Friedkin Group consider selling up.

PCP, which Staveley is a figurehead for, came close to purchasing the Toffees in December 2024.

Instead, it was the Friedkins who prevailed in taking over from Farhad Moshiri at Goodison Park.

That ushered in what was expected to be a bright new era for Everton Football Club.

While it is true the Americans have helped provide some stability, supporters have been frustrated by a lack of serious ambition.

And amid talk the Friedkins may already be looking to find a route out of Everton, Staveley's name is now back on the agenda.

What is latest on potential Friedkin Group sale at Everton?

The Friedkins are said to have already taken the initial steps towards selling a minority stake in Everton.

It has been suggested that the medium-to-long-term plan is to then sell off the majority of their shares and make a profit in doing so.

As per Mark Douglas via the i Newspaper on Wednesday, it was between Staveley's PCP Capital Group and the Friedkins to buy Everton two years ago.

The report outlines how Staveley "had made detailed plans for transforming the club’s football operations" - that is how close a takeover was.

The piece ponders if Staveley would still have the appetite for a fresh takeover attempt on Merseyside.

It is claimed that some senior figures at Everton believe that is the case, while PCP sources have denied it.

Staveley has recently taken on a new position elsewhere, but a source is quoted by Douglas as saying: "Amanda is interested in getting back into football, but it has to be the right opportunity."

Where new Everton investment is most likely to come from as Amanda Staveley question raised

So what is next in Everton's latest takeover saga?

It is becoming quite clear through various media reports that the Friedkins are not here to stay.

This is effectively what is know as a 'flip', in which an asset (Everton) is purchased, tidied up and sold for more in a relatively short space of time.

Everton are more attractive now to buyers than they were previously, albeit likely for a higher price.

There are surely numerous parties out there interested in taking up the Friedkins' offer.

Whether Staveley and PCP are realistically one of those, we may soon find out.
