CMC Markets CEO has just dropped massive clanger over Everton relationship
Everton's new partners CMS Markets may already have Toffees fans questioning their arrangement.
The Friedkin Group are certainly looking to take Everton in as many new and exciting directions as they possibly can.
Hill Dickinson Stadium is now one of the finest stadiums anywhere across European football, and should help massively boost both Everton's and the local areas economy for many years to come.
And, it was announced at the beginning of this month that CMC Markets would be joining as Everton's new main sponsorship partner.
The FTSE 250 company and multi-asset financial services firm are the Toffees' new front-of-shirt partner, as well as being visible across all forms of Everton's digital content and branding for 2026-27.
However, before a competitive ball has even been kicked to mark their new partnership, a top figure at the company has already made a questionable PR decision.
CMC Markets CEO takes jab at UK's most high-profile Evertonian
Goodison News has been covering CMS Markets' £30million sponsorship deal with Everton since the beginning.
This sort of investment into the Toffees brings with it the need for good relationships and trust to be built between everyone involved with the football club and their company.
However, that task may now have been made significantly more difficult as a result of one eyebrow-raising social media post.
Posting to his official X account on Tuesday, CMC Markets CEO Lord Peter Cruddas decided to take a swipe at the United Kingdom's new Prime Minister, and lifelong Evertonian, Andy Burnham.
Ex-England cricketer Kevin Pietersen originally posted: "Some dude from Manchester who I’d never even heard of until recently, is today the UK’s new PM. Anyone else lost a little on this?"
In response to this, Lord Cruddas decided to respond by saying: "Most of the country I suspect."
There may now be some fears over whether Lord Cruddas could become a divisive figure among Everton supporters given Burnham's affiliation to the Club.
Who is Lord Cruddas and what is his background?
Born in Hackney on 30 September 1953, Lord Cruddas left Shoreditch Comprehensive aged 15 with no qualifications, and gained his first job as a telex operator for Western Union.
So, his rise to the top of the business world is a very impressive one, and it was in 1989 that he formed CMC Markets.
In the 2007 Sunday Times Rich List, he was named as the richest man in the City of London, with his fortune at the time estimated to have been £860m.
As of 2012, Forbes had his net worth down as being $1.3bn (£972.6m in today's money), whilst he's also a published author with his 2022 book Passport to Success: From Milkman to Mayfair.
Lord Cruddas is also a Member of the House of Lords, and was the former co-treasurer for the Conservative Party between June 2011 to March 2012 during David Cameron's tenure as PM.
So, he's clearly a very shrewd businessman and respected figure in the political world too, but he may just need to be a tad more careful in order to protect his and his company's relationship with Everton.
