Everton may seal Kalvin Phillips transfer in January if 777 Partners complete takeover

Everton could revisit the possibility of signing Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips in January if 777 Partners complete their takeover of the Toffees, according to iNews.

The newspaper reported on its website on Tuesday (10 October) that Sean Dyche's side could be interested in signing the former Leeds United midfielder in January, having attempted to lure the England international to Goodison Park during the summer.

Phillips has slipped down the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium and will be allowed to leave, but whether or not Everton would be able to afford the 27-year-old could be dependent on whether not 777's takeover has been approved.

A summer move was explored but financial constraints on the club at the time made it nearly impossible to complete, something that may change very soon.

Good move

Everton needs quality additions in January to ensure that they can progress from being a relegation-threatened side to a team that is comfortable in the middle of the Premier League table and Phillips would represent exactly that.

The 27-year-old may have struggled since joining the ranks at Manchester City, but there is still a more than capable player there, he just hasn't yet had the opportunity to really remind everyone of just how good he can be when given time to express himself on the pitch.

During Leeds' time in the Premier League, he was arguably one of their best players and he would be a valuable addition to Dyche's midfield, offering a different sort of profile to any of the players already in situ at Goodison Park.

Whether or not 777 Partners' takeover will be completed in time for the January transfer window could be a different story, however. These processes take plenty of time and the Toffees could be facing a race against the clock to have the funding to complete the signing of the 27-year-old.

Hopefully, the funds will be available to Dyche to sign the Man City midfielder as it would a be huge step towards Premier League safety.
