Journalist Alan Myers has refuted claims that Kevin Malone is set to make a rescue bid for Everton.

It had been reported that the American businessman and former LA Dodgers chief was set to step in and make a rescue move for the Toffees following their issues with prospective owners 777 Partners.

However, Myers, when asked about the veracity of the rumours regarding Malone, suggested he had not heard anything to confirm them.

Back to square one for Everton takeover

Everton fans are understandably desperate for an alternative takeover suitor to step in and purchase the club from Farhad Moshiri instead of 777 Partners.

The Miami-based firm's attempted takeover has dragged on since September 2023, with the company failing to gain Premier League approval due to an inability - or unwillingness - to produce the necessary funds.

Additionally, there have been numerous allegations against 777 and their practices, as well as the legitimacy of their operation.

Everton - who have already suffered the consequences of financial mismanagement in the form of two points deductions this season totalling eight points after breaching the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) - can ill-afford another financially irresponsible owner, particularly given the threat of going to administration also hangs over the club.

If the rumours regarding Malone are indeed false, then the Toffees will simply have to hope a competent and financially responsible buyer steps in to save them.
