Everton open talks with 'David Moyes regular' as contract update emerges

Everton have multiple players out of contract at the end of the 2024/25 campaign and David Moyes will be keen to change that as soon as possible.

With The Friedkin Group taking over from Farhad Moshiri, there is a new-found hope at Goodison Park as positive results begin to flow on the pitch under new management.

However, with Carlos Alcaraz being the only addition to the squad during the winter transfer window, the Toffees' financial situation was highlighted once again and that could prove fatal in the summer.

Eight of the current permanent players' contracts are set to expire at the end of the campaign, and with four loanees also set to return to their parent clubs, Moyes could be left without much of his squad.

TFG are clearly already looking to combat this, with Goodison News understanding that Dominic Calvert-Lewin remains in talks over a new deal, but other stars need addressing too.

Everton open Idrissa Gueye contract talks

The Toffees have opened talks with Idrissa Gueye over the midfielder signing a one-year extension ahead of moving to the Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium, sources told TEAMtalk.

The online outlet reports [8 February] that the 35-year-old could be a part of the club's transition from Goodison Park ahead of the 2025/26 campaign as The Friedkin Group's new era begins.

He made 108 appearances for the Merseysiders before leaving for Paris Saint-Germain in 2019, eventually reuniting with his former club in August 2022, and has since made 87 appearances.

TFG prepare important steps before Bramley-Moore Dock move

Sean Dyche looked to be sleepwalking the team towards relegation before TFG decided to bring Moyes in last month, a decision which already seems to have paid off.

The Toffees have moved nine points clear of the Premier League dropzone, and that breathing space might now allow the owners to think about contract talks before next season.

While Gueye is 35 years of age, he is showing no signs of slowing down, starting 20 of the team's 23 league matches so far, so his experience and knowledge could be key next term as well.

Moyes will, obviously, need more than just one of his midfielders to seal their future on Merseyside but tying Gueye down to a new deal will set a brilliant precedence for the rest of the squad.
