TFG Everton theory floated amid sale latest, it could cost them a lot of money
Everton are on the hunt for new ownership after the Friedkin Group's bombshell last week.
TFG only assumed control of the Toffees back in December 2024, bringing an end to Farhad Moshiri's troubled tenure.
During that time, the American owners have balanced the books and overseen the move to Hill Dickinson Stadium.
However, the relationship with supporters has quickly become strained, particularly after the dismal summer transfer window.
Last week, TFG formally announced they are looking for fresh investment, which includes the possibility of a sale of a majority stake.
Former Everton player Michael Ball now has a theory about one aspect of what TFG have done during their time in charge.
Michael Ball speculates on TFG motives at Everton
There have been several complaintes from the Everton fanbase about TFG during their time in charge of the club.
One thing that caused surprised was David Moyes' admission that he had never met nor spoken to Dan Friedkin since he was appointed at Everton.
Indeed, chairman Dan Friedkin has never attended one of the club's matches since TFG completed their takeover.
That included not turning up for Everton's final game at Goodison Park at the end of the 2024-25 season.
Ball thinks the owners have not been present because if they had they would have fallen in love with the club, and doing so would have hit them in the pockets long term.
Writing for the Liverpool Echo, Ball opined: "We want to see the owner, and he hasn’t turned up for any games even when he’s been in the country, he hasn’t decided to pop in and witness what Everton is all about.
"I’ve got a theory about this. The reason is because the Americans do not want to get passionate about business and they don’t like their heart to rule their head, because they know when they do, it can cost them a lot of money.
"I feel that if Dan Friedkin turned up at Goodison Park on that last day and witnessed what we all experienced on that hugely emotional day, I think he would have known it was going to cost him a few more million quid as he would have fallen in love with our football club.
"He’s done it as a business transaction and I’m not happy with the news. But at least we know where we stand now."
Everton deserve clarity ASAP
In all honesty, whatever the motives of TFG are it is kind of irrelevant.
They have made it clear they are ready to sell up, and their actions in the transfer window proved they are not going to invest heavily in Everton moving forward.
So, whatever the reasons for being stayaway owners, whatever the reasons for wanting to sell now, the only thing that matters is that a swift resolution is found.
Because what this wonderful club does not deserve is another period of uncertainty after the brutal days fans lived through under the previous regime.
There is so much potential at Everton now with the Hill Dickinson Stadium and the commercial opportunities that brings.
But it needs full commitment and investment to take things to the next level, and it needs to happen fast.
