Everton star Amadou Onana has seemingly played his last game for the Toffees following a transfer link on Tuesday [18 June].

There have been plenty of rumours surrounding Onana's future and now it seems as if it's all but sealed.

Aster Vranckx is 'likely' to depart from Wolfsburg this summer with the Toffees reportedly having an 'eye' on the midfielder, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri (official X account, 18 June).

Why Aster Vranckx is an ideal replacement for Amadou Onana in the Everton squad

Everton have already been touted to undergo a summer of change.

Everton Amadou Onana

There is likely needed to be a sale before June 30 due to renewed fears over meeting Profit and Sustainability rules, but Onana and Branthwaite would be extremely difficult players to replace.

However, Vranckx is a solid option for the Toffees and holds some of the same characteristics that his fellow countryman does.

When comparing their 2023/24 seasons statistics in both the Bundesliga and the Premier League, the pair aren't far off one another.

On average, Vranckx made a total of 0.6 interceptions per game compared to Onana's 0.7. In terms of clearances, the Wolfsburg man averaged a total of 1.2 compared to the 1.0 of Onana.

Although players can't be solely judged off statistics, they give a good indication of the player and outline the strengths and similarities they have with one another, hence why, Vranckx is a solid replacement for Everton's man.
