Andy Burnham sends six-word message to Jordan Pickford after heroics in England win vs Mexico
Everton ace Jordan Pickford has been receiving praise from all quarters after starring in England's thrilling win over Mexico.
The Three Lions punched their ticket to the World Cup quarter-finals with an exhilarating 3-2 victory at the Azteca Stadium on Monday.
Jude Bellingham's quickfire double had England in dreamland, before Julian Quinones replied before half-time.
Jarell Quansah's red card hindered England, but Harry Kane kept his cool from the spot after ex-Everton winger Anthony Gordon was felled.
Kane then conceded a spot-kick of his own that Raul Jimenez netted, but England held firm despite the numerical disadvantage.
But Pickford played a huge role in England's win, leading to praise from the man who looks certain to become the next Prime Minister of Great Britain.
Jordan Pickford catches the eye of Everton fan Andy Burnham
England fans all over the country were making the touch decision as to whether to stay up and watch the game or catch up early in the morning.
Those who opted to battle through the night witnessed two absolutely magnificent saves from Pickford, both to deny Wolves striker Jimenez.
The first arrived in the 15th minute when Pickford dived low to his left to claw away the former Fulham man's stooping diving header.
Pickford then pulled off an absolutely worldie deep into first-half stoppage time, flinging himself high to the right to claw Jimenez's head away from the top corner.
Noted Everton fan Burnham, the overwhelming favourite to become new leader of the Labour party and consequently Prime Minister, posted a six-work message about Pickford on his official X account.
Burnham merely wrote: "Epic from England and Everton’s No1" accompanied by a blue heart emoji.
What promise did Andy Burnham make to Everton supporters?
Burnham is a huge supporter of Everton, and has spoken regularly about his passion for the Toffees.
If he does, as expected, become the next Prime Minister, then his ability to get down to the Hill Dickinson Stadium may be limited.
However, Burnham, speaking to FUBAR Radio in 2015, in quotes reported at the time by the Daily Mail, promised he would always keep his season ticket.
"I have a season ticket, it's my big thing," he said.
Asked if he would give up his seat if he became PM, he added: "No. Never. No, never. I will always go and watch Everton. Always. All my life, it will never change."
He might just be doing so with a World Cup winner in nets from next season.
