Dan Donachie rages at Anthony Gordon post at Everton, ‘Disgraceful’

Everton have been slammed by Dan Donachie for a "disgraceful" social media post aimed towards Anthony Gordon.

The Toffees' former managing director posted on X (6 October) after the club shared a video of Jordan Pickford's penalty save from the Newcastle forward, with a 'buzzer' sound added at a fan's request [X, 6 October].

Gordon, who left Goodison Park for St. James' for £40million in January 2023, was defended by Donachie having spent a decade coming through the club's academy ranks from the age of 11.

Donachie said: "Classy Everton post this about a young man who spent around 10 years of his life with the club.

"No wonder – disgraceful."

Donachie will be the last to blame the fans inside Goodison Park for their attitude towards Gordon on 5 October – no player who leaves in acrimonious circumstances will be welcomed back with open arms.

Gordon could have become the ultimate villain for Toffees fans had he put his spot-kick past Pickford from 12 yards, but the goalkeeper's save shone a completely different spotlight on the 23-year-old.

However, it is worth noting that the £40m brought in by Gordon's January 2023 sale will have gone some way towards assuaging profit and sustainability concerns surrounding that period on Merseyside.

Last season, the Blues were hit with penalties for PSR breaches in both the 2021/22 and 2022/23 campaigns, and the latter's two-point deduction could have been much worse if not for Gordon's sale.

In the heat of the moment, it's hardly surprising to see Gordon being the focus of Goodison's ire, and it can be left as that rather than being made into a massive controversy unnecessarily.
