David Moyes could now be on a hiding to nothing at Everton after new reveal
David Moyes will know all too well that the pressure is on to keep Everton moving in an upward trajectory next season.
The veteran Scot steered the Toffees to a 13th-place finish last term, in a campaign that had at times flirted with European qualification.
Moyes' immediate remit when replacing Sean Dyche in January 2025 was to avoid relegation, then stabilise.
With a win percentage of 36.1% since returning to the blue half of Merseyside, there is a sense that objective has been fulfilled.
But there is often a nagging background in the Everton fanbase that Moyes is the man to get the club back where it truly wants to be.
A new reveal from Opta Analyst suggests Moyes will have a great chance to quieten any doubters, but he could also be on a hiding to nothing.
How difficult are Everton's opening 2026/27 Premier League fixtures?
Friday was a day for all Premier League supporters to bookmark, given it was fixture release day.
Everton will open their campaign with a home clash against Crystal Palace at Hill Dickinson Stadium, and will - of course - look to lay down an early marker.
Once the news was announced, Opta revealed their fixture difficulty for every club's opening five fixtures of the upcoming campaign.
Everton fared pretty well in this regard, with the sixth "easiest" ranking - with Manchester United, Newcastle United, Liverpool, Brentford, and Palace the five teams below them.
On the surface, this looks like positive news for Moyes, who statistically has a great chance to get some early points on the board.
But, on the flip side, it will only raise the expectation levels in the early throes of the season.
As such, if Everton underwhelm in the opening games, it could be that any quiet dissenting voices find a bit more noise level.
What are Everton's other key fixtures?
After that opening day Palace test, Everton face Bournemouth (A), Manchester United (H), Tottenham (A), and new boys Ipswich Town (H) to complete their opening five.
The festive period is always an important one in the Premier League, and Everton welcome Sunderland on Boxing Day before Manchester City visit the Hill Dickinson Stadium on 30 December.
The first New Year assignment is a trip to Leeds United on 2 January, with Aston Villa the first to visit Everton in 2027 four days later.
Everton will round out their campaign with a trip to face Ipswich at Portman Road on 30 May, 2027.
