Everton suffered a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday as they were unable to overcome their Merseyside rivals at Anfield.

It was an awful first-half display from the Toffees, which saw them go 2-0 down thanks to goals from Ryan Gravenberch and Hugo Ekitike.

However, while Everton may feel aggrieved about Liverpool’s opener, the visitors came out to put in a brilliant performance in the second period.

David Moyes’ side came out a different team, with Idrissa Gueye pulling a goal back to make it 2-1, and almost found an equaliser multiple times.

However, the Scotsman was left less than amused late on as the Toffees pushed for a second.

With Everton searching for an equaliser against Liverpool, the visitors had a free-kick.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall then opted to take it quickly, which resulted in Darren England showing the midfielder a yellow card.

While Moyes may have been pleased with England’s refereeing with Everton in the past, he was less than amused with how this incident was handle.

Commenting on the incident, Jim Beglin told beIN SPORTS 1 on 20 September: "David Moyes is going crazy. He has his hands in the air and is disgusted at what's going on."

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s booking could have consequences for Everton

While the booking itself was laughable, it could have serious consequences for Everton in the coming games.

Dewsbury-Hall is now just one booking off an Everton suspension, which would no doubt be a loss for Moyes.

  • Dewsbury-Hall has now picked up four Premier League bookings for Everton
  • The midfielder has been great so far for the Toffees
  • However, he is now facing a one-match ban

The midfielder will now have to play 14 matches while attempting to avoid another booking, something that seems extremely unlikely.

Therefore, this decisions from England in the Merseyside derby may not have only cost the Toffees on the day, but could also have a significant impact later in the season.
