While the former Freiburg ace has featured heavily during pre-season, the Toffees are arguably mismanaging him.

The 24-year-old's loan move to the Blues has been made permanent for £17million after a tough start to life under the Scottish manager.

Rohl barely featured under Moyes until April, but started the last four Premier League games of the season.

The 63-year-old head coach seemed to have found the perfect position for the German ace on the right-wing.

It wouldn't be surprising to see the midfielder have a future in an attacking role at the Merseyside outfit, but his development is clearly being hindered.

It's encouraging to see Rohl get consistent minutes during pre-season after he was hampered by injuries last summer.

The German player has featured in multiple positions for the Blues during the recent friendlies against Dundee and Bolton Wanderers.

At Dens Park, Rohl played the entire game at right-back, as Moyes deals with a lack of options in the position.

Then at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, the ex-Freiburg ace featured as the wing-back, with the German manager testing out a 3-5-2 formation.

After the break, the Scottish manager reverted to his normal tactics, with Rohl playing in the midfield.

While it's good to see the Germany youth international's versatility being used, the fact that he hasn't played on the right-wing feels like an alarming mistake as Moyes tweaks his tactics.

While there's no shame in being a valuable squad member at Everton, Rohl will likely have ambitions of staking a claim in the starting lineup.

The midfielder certainly can't do that if Moyes continues to just play him out of position when needed.

Speaking about the number 34 to the media last season, the Scottish manager said, "Dynamism. He’s got speed and athleticism. He can play a number of positions for us as well. We can play him in several positions and he would still do the same job. He’s incredible athletically."
