David Moyes shares what he could do with Charly Alcaraz to solve Everton problem

David Moyes has a plan in mind for Charly Alcaraz to solve a potential Everton issue if needed.

All four of Alcaraz's appearances this season, two in the Premier League and two in the Carabao Cup, have come off the bench.

Indeed, the attacking midfielder came on as a substitute to score the winner in the 1-0 round-three Carabao Cup victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 23-year-old continues to be on the periphery of the starting XI at Hill Dickinson Stadium, having had to play second fiddle to the likes of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

But with Everton having such a threadbare squad until at least January, he will likely get his opportunity to impress at some point.

And it may be that Moyes has earmarked a different role for the Argentine attacker at Everton.

It is little secret that Everton endured a dismal end to the summer transfer window.

By the time deadline day had come and gone, Moyes was left with just one senior striker in the form of Thierno Barry.

Beto was sold to Fiorentina after they thought they had Monaco ace Folarin Balogun in the door.

However, a deadline day saga ended with Balogun eventually walking away from the move and Everton with just Barry up front.

Moyes has now shared how he thinks Alcaraz could be used up front if they need to plug that gap in the case of emergency.

Speaking about his Plan B in quotes reported by the Liverpool Echo, Moyes said: "Charly could be one of them [options to support Barry] if we needed it.

"I was concerned we were going to try and make a couple of changes [against Wolves] and I knew I could always move Brennan back to wide right or wide left if I needed to.

"My plan was to bring Charly on anyway. Brennan was doing a good enough job [at centre forward]. He played on the shoulders, he looked to run behind.

“I know he didn't finish the chance at Tottenham but in the main he's pretty clinical when he gets the chances.

"I trusted that if we could get chances against Wolves - and we were making chances - then Brennan would probably be on the spot.

"That's why I chose him over Charly on the night. But I think Charly could probably help us out if we need to.”

All hands on deck for Everton

Having a small squad can bring its advantages, as you can find it easier to keep everyone in camp in a happier mood.

But there has to be a balance struck, and Everton's transfer hierarchy got it completely wrong in a summer that simply had to promise much more.

Ultimately, though, we are and we are and there will be no bellyaching from Moyes about the situation he finds himself in.

Every player in the squad will be needed, and Alcaraz will get minutes to play despite finding himself with limited game time.

He might not be an out and out striker, but he does provide an option there until such a time another forward can be signed.
