It was always going to be a tough assignment but the truth is that Everton just didn't play well enough to get anything out of the game against Man City today.

They still came close, though, after a Richarlison goal in the 71st minute pegged the score back after a double from Gabriel Jesus had put Man City in the driving seat.

However, it was Pep Guardiola's men who looked the most likely to score again and only the post denied Jesus his hattrick.

The day didn't start off well for Everton with Bernand injured in the warm-up.

It was in midfield that Everton were found most wanting today.

The biggest culprit was Gylfi Sigurdsson, who was the worst player on the pitch for Everton today.

He's being asked to play a deeper role that doesn't really suit his game but that wasn't enough to save him from a savaging from Everton fans.

One said his "days are numbered" while another said he "has to go".

The defeat leaves Everton in 11th place, five points off the top six and it will give Ancelotti some food for thought as he now looks forward to his first Merseyside derby.
