Everton striker Youssef Chermiti has been sent a one-word message from AC Milan attacker Rafael Leao.

It comes after the Goodison Park man made his debut and scored for Portugal Under-21s on Thursday (21 March).

Chermiti was on target as his nation defeated Faroe Islands Under-21s 4-0 in a Euro 2025 qualifying match.

Taking to social media to celebrate, Chermiti posted on Instagram: “Very happy to make my U21 debut and being able to score a goal! We go again.”

Among those commenting on the post was Leao, who scored as Portugal defeated Sweden 5-2, also on Thursday.

Everton striker Youssef Chermiti enjoys dream Portugal Under-21s debut

Chermiti hasn’t had many moments to celebrate at Everton this season following his summer switch from Sporting.

But he will have really enjoyed his Portugal Under-21s debut, helping his nation continue their fine record in Euro 2025 qualifying.

AC Milan ace Leao, who won Serie A with the Italian giants in 2021/22, was also in fine form on the international stage, scoring the opener as Portugal thrashed Sweden in a friendly clash.

The winger is flying high for the senior side after working his way through the youth ranks, with Chermiti surely hoping for a similar trajectory.

But a Portugal debut is some way off, particularly if the striker continues to be overlooked by Sean Dyche at Everton.

He has certainly boosted his chances of such a call-up, with his goal potentially earning some more respect from Dyche.

Perhaps Chermiti was, however, signed as a future star, with the forward yet to score from his 13 senior Toffees appearances, in what has been a frustrating campaign overall for all of the strikers at the club.
