Everton could lose millions on Jarrad Branthwaite as former Goodison employee speaks out about agreement
Carlisle United receiving a sell-on fee for Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite would be like them getting into the Premier League financially.
That is according to former Goodison Park scout Bryan King, amid the confirmation from Carlisle chief executive Nigel Clibbens that the club would earn “significant” cash if the defender left the Toffees for big money [News & Star, 7 February].
According to the Daily Mail (13 February), Manchester United, Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal and Real Madrid are interested in Branthwaite, along with fierce rivals Liverpool.
The Toffees could, however, lose £7million if they were to sell Branthwaite given that Carlisle included a 10 per cent sell-on clause in the deal, with Everton set to demand £70million for his services.
Speaking to Goodison News, King said: “This has always been a part of clubs. These kinds of deals have been going on for quite some time.
“For clubs like Carlisle where some of these young players have come from, I think it’s great that money is being kept in the game that way.
“Financially it would be like getting in the Premier League nearly for them, a great boost to their finances. I’m all for that kind of stuff.”
Everton ace Branthwaite set for big-money move?
The Toffees have hit the headlines for all sorts of reasons this season, with their proposed takeover and points deduction often dominating the talk.
Those stories have largely been negative as the takeover has yet to be confirmed, while the points deduction fired the club down the Premier League table.
But one positive amid all the off-field distractions has been the performances of Branthwaite, who has shone at the back under Sean Dyche.
