Everton-crazy pundit wants rules changed after Wolves controversy

Michael Ball wants VAR to be removed from the game as Everton were denied a goal in the 4-0 win against Wolves.

James Tarkowski scored a well-headed goal in the first half of the contest which at the time gave the Toffees a 2-0 lead at Goodison Park on 4 December.

However, Orel Mangala, who was in an offside position was judged to have blocked Mario Lemina who was supposed to be Tarkowski's marker for the goal.

Ball wrote on X: "Great night. Convincing win. Players reacted well, showed determination & grit but importantly showed cuteness and smart play to out with the opposition. More of this please. VAR - Bin it."

This decision would have infuriated fans, players and staff had the match been closer, as it seemed to penalise Everton for an opponent's mistake rather than their own.

Three players contested the header with Tarkowski and the PGMOL's defence was that the fourth one was blocked.

While one can understand why re-refereeing the game is not always a good thing, clubs view it as a net good.

VAR, despite its controversies, is entrenched in modern football for its potential to correct clear and obvious errors.

The key lies in refining its implementation with clearer rules, especially around offside and obstruction, to ensure decisions are both fair and universally understandable.

Apart from that, it was arguably the Toffees' performance of the season and one that Dyche would be delighted with.
