Everton: David Moyes pays tribute to 'wonderful' Bill Kenwright after what he did

David Moyes has paid tribute to Bill Kenwright after Everton announced he passed away on Monday (23 October).

Speaking in a press conference on Wednesday (25 October, via BBC Sport), the West Ham manager said the Toffees chairman was a "wonderful man" and was "brilliantly supportive" during his time as the Blues boss.

The 60-year-old added that he "couldn't have had a better chairman as a young coach" after handing him a "big opportunity" in his career at Goodison Park.

"He gave me a big opportunity in my career when I was a young manager in the lower leagues," said Moyes. "He was a wonderful man, brilliantly supportive. I couldn't have had a better chairman as a young coach."

Grateful

It comes as no surprise to hear that Moyes is grateful for the opportunity Kenwright handed him at Everton after joining the club from Preston North End in 2002.

He was up there amongst the most successful managers during the chairman's time with the Toffees, having qualified for the Champions League in 2005.

The pair worked extremely well together over a number of years before the Scotsman decided to move on to Manchester United after 11 years at Goodison Park.

Moyes will have seen first-hand how much the Blues chair cared about the club during his time on Merseyside and his death will have caused great sadness.

There have been an awful lot of tributes paid to Kenwright over the past couple of days and he will be remembered around the grounds in the Premier League this weekend.
