Everton defender Nathan Patterson, who was in the matchday squad on Saturday against Brentford, was named in the starting eleven for the Under-21s on Monday.

The Toffees youth team took on Watford Under-21s on 25 November and Patterson started at right-back with Jake O'Brien also named in the playing eleven.

Armando Broja, who has been battling fitness issues since moving to Goodison Park, also made his return from injury to get minutes for the reserves.

Nathan Patterson needs more minutes for the Everton first team

The Scotland international arrived at Goodison Park from Rangers with high expectations and many thought he would eventually be the first-choice right-back.

While he did have injury issues at the start of the season, he did overcome them and in recent games, has just been a bench option for Sean Dyche.

With Ben Godfrey leaving in the summer and Ashley Young turning 40 next year, it's evident that the Toffees aren't the strongest at right-back.

Thus, it's baffling to see why Patterson continues to be overlooked by Dyche as he's got what it takes to be a Premier League full-back.

The 23-year-old offers a lot in the final third and is quick enough to track back and play in a side that does not dominate possession either.

Hopefully, he can impress against Watford and Dyche actually gives him some consideration for the next league game against Manchester United on 1 December.
