Everton: Jordan Pickford to be fuming after Thomas Tuchel's latest England decision
Jordan Pickford of Everton will surely be furious at the latest developments with England.
The Blues star has been a reliable figure between the sticks for the Three Lions and the Blues.
He has been capped 83 times for his country, playing a part in two World Cups and two European Championships tournaments.
He is set to play a starting role at the upcoming World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
However, he will not be a part of Thomas Tuchel's leadership team as the boss has made a decision on the vice-captaincy.
Who has been named vice captain over Everton star Jordan Pickford?
Pickford has enough experience and has shown his quality on enough occassions to be in contention for the role.
Speaking in his post-match press conference after the 1-0 win over New Zealand, he said: “I think I would say Declan is my vice-captain.
"I think we had this talk when Harry was not in camp with us. We started with Ollie and I think Declan was captain. That was where I told him.”
Given Rice's season, winning the Premier League with the Gunners and reaching the Champions League final, it is not a surprise, but Pickford was a worthy contender.
Why Pickford may have felt like he deserved it
Pickford has more caps than Rice's 72, so he has more experience of the pressures of playing for the nation which hasn't won the tournament since 1966.
Only Harry Kane, Jordan Henderson and John Stones have more caps than the Toffees star, out of the players named in the squad for the tournament.
While Pickford is not club captain, he is certainty a leader on the pitch, regulalrly spotted marshalling the defence and barking out orders to his teammates.
His passion is infectious and he would have been a brilliant contender for the role, to potentially help drive Tuchel's side to their first trophy in decades.
He will surely be furious with Tuchel's latest announcement, as he would have felt like he was in line for a leadership role, with goalkeepers typically playing longer than outfield players.
He can now prove Tuchel wrong by making a huge impact on the Three Lions' chances of winning the tournament, that has to be the next motivation for the Hill Dickinson Stadium star.
