Journalist Sacha Tavolieri has raged at the "disrespect" shown towards Everton ace Amadou Onana during Belgium's 0-0 draw against the Republic of Ireland on Saturday (23 March).

The Toffees midfielder was benched ahead of the international friendly, with Domenico Tedesco choosing a midfield three of Youri Tielemans, Arthur Vermeeren and Aster Vranckx.

Onana was finally brought onto the pitch in the 64th minute, but out of his usual position, replacing Koni De Winter in the centre of defence, prompting Tavolieri to react via his personal X account.

"Amadou Onana, centre-back. What a disrespect," he said on Saturday (23 March).

Belgium waste Amadou Onana's talents after Everton displays

Onana may not be a mainstay in Sean Dyche's squad this season, mainly due to his inconsistencies at such a young age, there is no doubt that the Toffees have a very real talent on their hands.

His performances have gathered plenty of attention from other Premier League clubs, as well as European sides looking to improve their midfield ahead of next season.

Taking the 22-year-old's height into consideration, there is probably a chance that Onana would do a decent job in defence. However, that would waste the talents that he continues to showcase in the middle of the park.

Amadou Onana has been in fine form under Sean Dyche at Everton.

In a game that ended 0-0, Onana could have added a much-needed goal threat to midfield, having last come up with an important goal in Everton's 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace in February.

Tavolieri has every right to be frustrated with the utilisation of Onana, especially after ending the match with a 0-0 draw that Belgium would be expected to win. With a second friendly against England on Tuesday 26 March, the hope will be that Onana gets to shine in midfield then.
