Seamus Coleman's long-term association with Everton looks set to continue despite being out of contract at Goodison Park.

Coleman is Everton's longest-serving player by some distance in the current Toffees squad, signing from Sligo Rovers all the way back in January 2009 for £60,000 and being a constant in the 16 years since.

David Moyes' return to the club in January reunitied Coleman with the manager who brought him to Everton all those years ago, but the 36-year-old is yet to feature under the Scot due to several injuries.

With the Republic of Ireland international's contract up at the end of the season – joining another nine Everton first-team players with speculation over their futures – what comes next remains to be seen.

Moyes has made clear that come the end of the season, he'd love to see Coleman continue in an off-field capacity at Everton, with question marks growing over whether time could be up for his playing career.

The Liverpool Echo, however, reported on 12 March that Coleman is the new patron of Everton's Disabled Supporters Association, and he took part in a tour of their new home at Bramley-Moore Dock.

Speaking to the Echo following the news, Coleman said: "I'm very proud to have been asked down here and invited to become a patron of EDSA.

"They're all thanking me but it's a massive honour, and I've always wanted to play a big part in supporting groups like EDSA in my time at the club.

"[After] learning how their matchday experience will improve here, it's been a really enjoyable day."

Everton preparing next phase of Seamus Coleman career

It's clear that Moyes and other Evertonians are keen for Coleman's 16-year association with the Toffees to continue, stretching the Irishman's time on Merseyside well beyond the end of his playing career.

Coleman is yet to call time on his international career and in 2024 made this most Republic of Ireland appearances since 2021, but with just four for Everton so far this season, it's clear he is on the wane.

Ashley Young has been able to stay fit enough to feature on 29 occasions this term despite being three years Coleman's senior, and he's another with speculation over his future at Everton this summer.

With this summer set to be the most transformational in Everton's history as they move across Liverpool to Bramley-Moore Dock, Coleman remaining involved in an off-field capacity will be music to fans' ears.
