Mark Douglas says he would "be interested to see" if supporters of clubs other than Everton also fear the Premier League is becoming a two-tier division.

The i Newspaper journalist wrote an article for the publication's online edition on Thursday (21 March) which raised concerns over the direction the Premier League is heading.

Douglas suggested that it is now "almost impossible" for a team outside of the top-six elite - Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea - to be financially viable and successful.

Posting on his personal X account [21 March], Douglas said: "Be interested to see how many other supporters feel this way given how hot a topic PSR is."

While there is a strong argument to be made that the top six will not be disrupted, you only have to look at the Premier League table this season.

Chelsea, despite spending a billion pounds on players, are down in 11th place, while Aston Villa sit in fourth.

What is concerning, though, is that a team like Villa are now in a position where they will likely have to sell a star player in the summer.

The Villans have been told they must balance their books to avoid breaching financial guidelines, despite likely having Champions League football.

It is a similar story at Forest, who have been punished for attempting to make their squad stronger.

The Premier League has got itself into a mess and it is only going to get messier as we await to hear what second punishment Everton are themselves set to face.
