If Everton are relegated from the Premier League due to points deductions after the end of the season, it will be a national disgrace, according to Chris Beesley.

The Liverpool Echo journalist [23 March] has insisted that if the club's last season at Goodison Park is spent in the Championship as a result of off-field decisions, it would be a "nightmare scenario".

This comes as the final Premier League decision on Nottingham Forest and Everton's possible points deductions may not be resolved until after the season ends if both sides opt to appeal.

When will Everton know their points deduction verdict?

There remains the possibility that Everton will not know the final verdict on their potential second points deduction, and therefore the relegation battle, until after the season ends, although financial advisor Rob Wilson assured both parties would do everything to prevent that situation.

Either way, the prospect of a second points deduction is a very real threat given the punishment handed to Forest, and the club will be hoping the independent commission, set to meet in April, will be more reasonable than before.

As a result, relegation remains very much on the cards at Goodison Park, with just four points separating Sean Dyche's team from Nottingham Forest in the bottom three, with Luton separating the teams - although Everton have a game in hand on both.

Danny Murphy and Simon Jordan recently joked about the prospect of relegation live on talkSPORT, although both seemed to suggest the Toffees would avoid the drop. If they don't, the situation at Goodison Park could be toxic.
