Everton will be left biting their nails after news of Nottingham Forest being docked four points for breaching financial rules.

The Guardian reported on Monday afternoon (18 March) that Forest's penalty has now been locked in, but the Reds intend to appeal.

That decision drops Forest into the relegation zone, making it good news on the face of it for Everton.

However, many have suggested that the Toffees' own PSR punishment will be in line with that of Forest, which is pretty worrying.

Nottingham Forest deducted four Premier League points

A further four-point deduction, on top of the six earlier in the season - it was originally 10 but reduced on appeal - would leave Everton in trouble.

Assuming it is also a four-point deduction that Everton are facing, Sean Dyche's men will drop to 21 points, which is level with Forest and one behind Luton Town.

Like Forest, the Toffees are expected to appeal the decision, which is expected to then drag on until a week after the Premier League campaign concludes.

Everton PSR decision now imminent

Official confirmation from the Premier League regarding the Forest charge is expected at some point later on Monday (18 March) or Tuesday (19 March).

Everton's punishment is then expected to become clear in the days after that, but the precedent has now been set.

The only positive, if you can really call it that, is that every side will then know exactly where they stand in the table.

That is until the appeals are launched, of course, which will only cause the Premier League a further headache.

All Everton can do is get as many points on the board and hope it is enough without any successful appeal being required.
