Charlie Whitaker has left Everton permanently as he has joined Notts County.

The club confirmed via their official website on 13 January that the 21-year-old, who moved to Goodison Park aged 12, has left for an undisclosed fee.

The attacking midfielder was a regular for the Under-21s side but will now ply his trade elsewhere.

Everton make the right call to sell Charlie Whitaker

Whitaker's departure to Notts County makes perfect sense for both the player's career progression and the Toffees' squad planning.

At 21, Whitaker has shown considerable promise within Everton's youth setup, but breaking into the first team at Goodison Park was always going to be a significant challenge.

The competition for places in midfield is fierce, with established players and new signings often taking priority.

For Whitaker, the move to Notts County offers the opportunity to play regular first-team football, something crucial for his development at this stage of his career.

While he displayed potential and was a regular for the Under-21s, the step up to senior football in the Premier League can be daunting and not all prospects make that transition.

This transfer allows Whitaker to test himself in a competitive environment where he can gain invaluable experience, potentially setting him up for future considerations at higher levels or at least ensuring he continues to develop as a professional footballer.
