Exclusive: How many games Martin Sherif could be banned for as Everton player charged

Everton attacker Martin Sherif could be banned for at least 12 games, Goodison News has learned.

The young forward has been charged by the FA for allegedly breaching betting rules.

It's said that Sherif is accused of placing 61 bets on games over a 15-month period recently.

Those games were between November 2024 and February 2026.

During that time, Sherif has been on loan at Rotherham and Port Vale away from Finch Farm.

Despite training with the first team at Everton from early 2025 when available, he's expected to be ruled out for a considerable period.

What could punishment be for Martin Sherif?

Sherif has until 17 August to respond to the charge, but that is rarely successful after being found out by the FA.

Keith Hackett has exclusively told Goodison News that the Toffees gem could be banned for a minimum of 12 games.

The ex-FIFA referee insists that the gambling ban is reiterated to players and clubs at the start of every campaign, working closely to prevent it from happening like it does.

"Gambling on football Worldwide is banned and highlighted very clearly by the Football Association to players, clubs, LMA and PFA at the start of every season," Hackett said.

"The FA work closely with Players betting companies who have sophisticated methods along with algorithms that highlight the details of individuals gambling.

"Expect a lengthy ban - 12 match minimum."

Who else has been banned by FA for betting breaches?

While he may not have been on the verge of a senior breakthrough at Everton, David Moyes will be far from impressed.

With outside influences growing for younger players, they can possibly throw away their career with ease.

One of the latest high-profile betting cases was new Tottenham signing, Sandro Tonali.

While at Newcastle, the Italian was banned for 10 months in total.

Another example was Ivan Toney, who was banned for eight months, cut down from 11, after over 200 breaches.

So, while not great and nowhere near acceptable, Sherif appears to have been charged with far fewer breaches.

Still, a 12-game ban would cut the start of his season down considerably, and also close the door on any possible loan move that was coming his way.

Now, it's waiting for his response and the final decision from the FA.
