Jordan Pickford: Everton goalkeeper's actions 'horrible' vs West Ham, potential leg breaker

Jordan Pickford is lucky Taty Castellanos didn't suffer a major injury as Everton lost 2-1 to West Ham United on Saturday.

Don Hutchison believes the England international's follow-through on the Hammers' striker after making a save could potentially have been a leg breaker.

The 32-year-old's studs landed on the Argentine forward's ankle in the 50th minute, with VAR taking a look but eventually waving off concerns about a possible sending off.

Hutchison branded the goalkeeper's incident with the Irons' number nine as horrible, but it doesn't look like any retrospective action will be taken.

Pickford got the ball at the London Stadium before crashing into Castellanos and shot-stoppers can't be expected to do their jobs if they can't rush out and make themselves big to pull off saves.

Writing on X on 27 April, Hutchison said, "Horrible tackle this. It's a potential leg breaker."

Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher believes Pickford's sending off against West Ham would have been a difficult decision for the referee.

The shot-stopper clearly comes out with the intention of saving the ball and there's clearly no way he can change his direction mid-air.

Looking at the footage in isolation, it's understandable that Hammers fans wanted to see action taken against Pickford, but officials ultimately favoured him in the incident.

David Moyes will surely be glad the English shot-stopper will be available for the upcoming matches, as the Toffees need to bounce back to keep their European hopes alive.

Mark Travers is the backup goalkeeper at the Merseyside outfit, but he's yet to make a Premier League appearance since moving to L3 last summer.
