Bryan King thinks Manchester United will "definitely" be considering a January move for Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite.

The ex-Goodison scout claims the Red Devils could even look to sell players to fund a move for the defender.

However, according to Sky Sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri [18 November], United have also held talks with Sporting Lisbon about Ousmane Diomande, in a deal to reunite the centre-back with Ruben Amorim in Manchester.

However, King - speaking exclusively to Goodison News - is convinced that United's interest in the 22-year-old remains.

“Manchester United have overspent on players,” King said.

“I’m sure that some of those players are going to be moved on sharpish to generate cash to bring in younger players. Looking at the state of United, I think Branthwaite would be one of those players they're definitely looking at.

“I think fees are going to be looked at by United after the amount of money they’ve spent. It seems to me they’ve paid top dollar for average players. Therefore, they won’t want to repeat that mistake.”

Manchester United to sign Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite?

Branthwaite has hardly featured this season for Everton due to injury. However, he remains one of the club's most important players, as well as most valuable assets.

Therefore, it wouldn't be a surprise to see United make a move for the young Englishman in January.

However, if Everton are not yet confident of surviving in the Premier League by this point, they could look to dig their heels in once again and keep hold of Branthwaite.
