Matterface and Dixon in agreement over 'superb' Jordan Pickford moment in England win vs Croatia
Everton star Jordan Pickford earned plaudits from Sam Matterface and Lee Dixon in England's 7-0 win over Croatia.
The Blues goalkeeper returned to the Three Lions side after being axed for Leeds' James Trafford in the last two matches.
The Elland Road ace has provided competition, but the Hill Dickinson Stadium hero was back in the starting line-up against Slaven Bilic's team.
Thomas Tuchel's side eased to victory in the UEFA Nations League clash in Rijeka.
Pickford and his teammates took all three points at Stadion NHK, and the Toffees ace played a big part.
Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, Anthony Gordon, Bukayo Saka and Morgan Rogers will get the credit for their goals, but the 32-year-old stopper also got his recognition.
Why did Everton star Jordan Pickford earn praise on England duty?
Pickford wasted no time reminding Tuchel why he is the number one goalkeeper.
He raced out to deny Ivan Perisic after Bayer Leverkusen defender Jarell Quansah left a huge gap for the attacker to run into and try to get the ball in a dangerous area.
Speaking live on ITV commentary, Matterface said: "He's done brilliantly, superb goalkeeping from Jordan Pickford."
Dixon replied, saying: "It needed to be, Quansah had gone infield, left a big gap, Saka got caught on his heels a little bit, doesn't need a second invitation Perisic to get forward."
The fact that the duo were in agreement on the Everton man's heroics is perhaps a surprise given Dixon's history with Pickford.
Why did Lee Dixon cause controversy with Pickford comments?
Dixon has previously irked Blues supporters with his comments on their star goalkeeper when he was on international duty.
In October 2025, he claimed that he was "surprised" that Pickford had never joined a "bigger club".
It is no surprise why he is not exactly a fan favourite in L3, and the club were quick to reply to those remarks on social media.
Taking to their X page, they posted a riposte to the former Arsenal man with their major trophy count, saying "Everton FC - a big club: past, present and future" and tagging Dixon.
Pickford took to Instagram after he signed a new contract in the same month, and also seemed to take a dig at the commentator.
He said: "Couldn’t be prouder to keep representing this club that means so much to me and my family."
He is the starting number one for one of the greatest clubs in England, and it has earned him the same role for his country, surely he would not possibly think about leaving while that is the case.
Maybe when he is replaced, he may think about trying to get a 'big' move to try and regain his place, but right now, he is happy on Merseyside.
