Jordan Pickford was back in the thick of the action for England on Saturday evening.

The Everton goalkeeper made his first appearance of the international break under Thomas Tuchel.

England travelled to Croatia and smashed their opponents in a 7-0 victory that simply came out of nowhere in the Nations League.

Leeds' James Trafford started in the first two games of the break, and Pickford will keep his spot against Czechia on Tuesday.

There has been a real debate around who is best to take the gloves for England after the World Cup, and that will rumble on.

And despite starting in a 7-0 win, Pickford's performance was still singled out for heavy praise.

Why England debate still won't bring change

Trafford may be pushing Pickford further, but he needs to do a lot more to permanently take his spot.

Consistent football will help, but the Everton stopper has held this number one shirt for years now, with countless records.

Micah Richards has the highest level of confidence in him, too, saying he was feeling so good watching Pickford against the Croatians, despite it being 7-0 and comfortable.

Speaking on the latest episode on the Rest is Football on Monday, Richards had to pick out the stopper by name.

"I just thought every player was outstanding," he said.

"How many times have we said that about England? Every single player on the pitch was amazing - even Pickford.

"His timing to come out and the positioning he showed filled me with confidence."

What next for Jordan Pickford?

With a long-term contract and another World Cup under his belt over the past couple of years, it's about cementing his legacy.

Pickford has been heavily linked with Bayern Munich, but it would take something special to get him out of Merseyside and away from David Moyes.

The keeper can envisage his career ending at Hill Dickinson Stadium, but would the lure of consistent trophies and Champions League lure him out?

Without winning anything, he's been to the very top with England, and Everton may need to start matching that very soon to keep their main man.

Football is cruel, and him leaving would be painful.

For now, Everton fans love Pickford, and he loves them, as he prepares for yet another well-deserved England cap.
